How to use a CELPIP template without sounding memorised
A template is a shape, not a script. It tells you how many parts your answer needs and what each one is for, so that under time pressure you are choosing ideas rather than inventing a structure. What you put inside it has to be yours.
Do
- Learn the shape — how many parts an answer has and what each one does.
- Fill every bracket with detail from the prompt in front of you.
- Keep your own examples, numbers, and names. They are what earn Content marks.
- Practise until the structure is automatic and your attention is free for content.
Don’t
- Memorise sentences word for word — examiners hear it, and Task Fulfillment drops.
- Force a prepared story into a prompt it does not fit.
- Keep filler transitions you would never say aloud.
- Reuse the same connector in every paragraph.
Time you get per task
Practise against these limits from the start. A structure that works in 90 seconds falls apart in 60.
