Which tool do you need?
Start from the problem in front of you.
- Your PDF is over the limit. Most IRCC accounts take files up to 4 MB, the IRCC Portal takes 5 MB, and IRCC says some application types allow as little as 2 MB. Compress PDF makes a copy that fits the target you choose.
- You have several files and one upload field. IRCC keeps one file per field, and if you upload a second one, only the last is saved. Merge PDF joins them in the order you set.
- One long scan holds documents that belong in different fields. Split PDF pulls out the pages each field needs.
- Your documents are phone photos. JPG to PDF puts them into one PDF, a page per photo.
- You want to know whether a photo is framed right. The Canada visa photo guide shows the 35 × 45 mm frame and the head-size range. Online applications need the photographer's unaltered file, so read that page before you crop anything.
- You aren't sure a file will go through. The IRCC file checker tests size and format against the rules for your account.
Which IRCC accounts do these rules cover?
The limits and formats come from IRCC's help centre for five accounts: the IRCC secure account, the IRCC Portal, the online citizenship application, the Asylum Portal and the Permanent Residence Portal. A single upload field can still ask for less, so read the instructions for your application too.
Do my documents leave my device?
No. Each tool runs in your browser, so passport scans and bank statements stay on your computer or phone. IRCC says it can't guarantee the security of third-party tools and asks you to read their privacy terms before using one. These tools don't send your files anywhere, and you don't need an account.
IRCC file rules
- 4 MB per file in most IRCC accounts, 5 MB in the IRCC Portal.
- PDF, JPG and PNG are accepted in every account. Other formats depend on the account.
- Visa photos: a 35 × 45 mm frame, head 31 to 36 mm from chin to crown.
