CLB 8: CELPIP, IELTS and PTE Core Scores
CLB 8 is CELPIP 8, or IELTS 7.5 in Listening and 6.5 in Reading, Writing and Speaking. It meets every program in our calculator and earns 23 CRS points per skill without a spouse.

What CLB 8 gives you
CLB 8 meets the language minimum for every program in our calculator, including Federal Skilled Worker, the Canadian Experience Class and a PGWP after a university program. From here on, a higher level is about CRS points rather than eligibility.
CLB 8 in all four skills earns 92 points without a spouse or partner, 24 more than CLB 7.
The IELTS Listening jump
On CELPIP, CLB 8 is simply an 8 in each skill. On IELTS, it isn't even: Listening needs 7.5, a full band above the 6.5 the other skills need. That's why an IELTS result of 6.5 in every skill gives CLB 8 in three skills but CLB 7 in Listening.

Moving from 8 to 9
At CLB 8, the remaining gains are in the details: vocabulary that's precise rather than general, Writing that's organized and checked, and Speaking that sounds natural under time pressure.
