How CELPIP Listening is scored
CELPIP Listening is scored by how many questions you answer correctly across its six parts. That total is converted to a CELPIP level from 1 to 12 — there are no separate marking criteria for Listening.
How to prepare for Viewpoints
- Identify the speaker's overall position early, because this longer monologue tests whether you grasp the main viewpoint as well as the supporting details.
- Follow how the argument develops, since the speaker builds reasons and examples that later questions may reference.
- Distinguish the speaker's actual opinion from views they mention only to counter, as this separation is often tested.

Viewpoints: frequently asked questions
It is a longer opinion-based monologue, so it tests both your understanding of the speaker's overall stance and specific supporting details.
Both; some questions target the speaker's central viewpoint while others ask about specific reasons or examples they give.
Note them as views the speaker is responding to, not as their own opinion, so you do not mix up positions when answering.
It is one of the more demanding Listening tasks because of its length and opinion focus; concentrate throughout since the audio plays only once.
