How CELPIP Reading is scored
CELPIP Reading is scored by how many questions you answer correctly across its four parts. Your total is converted to a CELPIP level from 1 to 12, with no separate marking criteria.
How to prepare for Reading for Information
- Skim the passage for the topic of each paragraph first, so you know where to look when matching statements to sections.
- Match on meaning rather than repeated words, because a statement often paraphrases the paragraph instead of copying its wording.
- Eliminate paragraphs that clearly do not fit, which narrows your choice when a statement could seem to match more than one.

Reading for Information: frequently asked questions
You read a multi-paragraph passage and match given statements to the paragraph that each one relates to.
Often not; statements tend to paraphrase, so you should match based on meaning rather than hunting for identical wording.
Reread both and pick the one whose main idea most fully supports the statement, ruling out the paragraph that only touches it in passing.
It is scored by how many statements you match correctly, and your Reading total converts to a level from 1 to 12.
